“Developing a SQL Backup and Recovery Strategy” (5 days)
- Data collection using specialized tools (infrastructure configuration, performance, SLA/OLA requirements).
- Aligning backup and recovery strategy with SLA.
- Generation of a test environment to simulate emergency situations.
- Conducting disaster recovery exercises for key disaster scenarios (damage to individual objects, loss of data, etc.).
- Develop recommendations for backup and recovery strategy (backup methods and schedule taking into account business requirements and infrastructure capabilities).
- Development of a disaster recovery document (service passport, step-by-step recovery instructions for each scenario).
- Working with customer documentation (taking into account the specifics of third-party backup software, instructions from backup/recovery software administrators and other documents).
- Data recovery/copying speed measurements and logging.
The work includes the following scenarios:
- Restoring the server after a failure at various levels (stopping services, denying access to accounts, blocking files, firewall rules).
- Restoring performance at the SQL instance level (system databases, resource database, etc.).
- Recovering a damaged database (pages, indexes, transaction logs).
- Restoring the WFC cluster (quorum, cluster disks, resource libraries, etc.).
- Restoring the functionality of AlwaysON availability groups (listener, access rights, resource groups, etc.).
- Assist in testing in production environments.
“SQL Infrastructure Survey” (duration 5 days)
- Data collection using specialized tools (configuration, logs, operational questionnaire, xevents traces).
- Automatic analysis of collected data for compliance with support requirements and vendor best practices.
- Analysis of the results by an engineer and additional in-depth analysis.
- Additional analysis of the performance of the systems being examined.
- Prepare and conduct an Executive presentation, detailed technical report and remediation plan with recommendations provided.
- Transfer of knowledge to customer specialists during systems inspection.
“SQL Performance Analysis” (duration 5 days)
- Data collection using specialized tools (configuration, logs, operational questionnaire, xevents routes, etc.).
- Engineer review and advanced performance analysis (SQL/CPU/Memory/I/O/NUMA/Hyper-V/VMware performance counters).
- Checking the operation of the entire disk stack (ETL storport, DSM, performance counters, etc.).
- Collection and analysis of request traces in order to identify “heavy requests”, etc.
- Prepare and conduct an Executive presentation, detailed technical report and remediation plan with recommendations provided.
- “Transfer of knowledge” to customer specialists during systems inspection.
